003 – Song of Community

Since it’s the week before Valentine’s Day, I wanted to sit down with a favorite couple of mine. I attended Belmont University with Jeff & Kristin in the early 2000s, but it wasn’t until recently that our friendship grew roots. These two combine their generous hearts with an open door that has made a huge impact on my life as well as many others.

002 – Song of Joy

I’m really excited to introduce you to two people who have known me my entire life… literally. My parents are a constant source of inspiration for me and, in fact, their story – something they’re going through this very moment – was a source of inspiration for this podcast.

001 – Song of Remembering

The Starting with a Song Podcast launches TODAY! Everyone has a story worth sharing. It’s in those stories where we discover songs — everything from the rallying cries we sing to pump us up to the celebratory music that makes us dance after a win. But what about the in-between of liminal space?

Timelapse

The New Year came and went without any year-in-review social updates on my end. I thought about it as I scrolled through the feed of my friends’ memories, but opted to sit in the silence. When I opened my journal this morning and wrote 2020 for the first time, I noticed a sizable gap from…

You Look Great (and Other Insults)

It’s been a minute since we talked about weight. (Did your brain just jump to a picture of a scale? Hang with me for a minute; that’s not what I’m going for.) ‘Tis the season for delicious treats, festive drinks, and the softest of PJs. Unfortunately, it’s also prime time for diet talk, resolution pressure,…

5 Things I Learned from Tacos

Ever the daughter of an educator, I tend to digest experiences through lessons learned and, just like you can learn a lot from a culture through their culinary history, what I’m taking away from my time in Puerto Vallarta really boils down to tacos.

Anchored

“How’s the temp?” I yelled outside as my husband lit the grill to prep for dinner. “Chilly, but great.” That was all the encouragement I needed to bundle in my housecoat, pour a glass of red, and head outside. 63 degrees and sitting under swaying trees looks a lot different now than it did five…

Starting with a Song

I stopped scrolling when I saw this post. My friend re-posted this and suggested we think about where we started 10 years ago. Sure, the decade realization is enough to make my head spin, but I love how she used the word started. A decade ago, 28-year old Amanda was living in a very different…

Beginning of the End

Someone recently said that fall is the start to a 3-month exit. My birthday falls around Thanksgiving so I tend to not think of it as an end, but as a beginning for a new season, a new year, new lessons, new opportunities. But it is an end, isn’t it? Even the colors I marvel at — the yellows and browns on the crunchy, fallen leaves — that’s death in nature; an exhale to green life well-lived.

Spin the Wheel

I don’t know how therapists do it. Anytime I hear someone spew their problems, I want to shake them and simultaneously point to a list of step-by-step instructions saying, “here’s exactly what you need to do.” I don’t even know if that gut reaction could be swayed with money (probably not. #sorrynotsorry). All that to…
